Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting
Facilitator Training

With support from The Ontario Trillium Foundation, FRP Canada introduced the Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting (formerly called Positive Discipline: What it is and how to do it) program to Ontario by coordinating three-day Positive Discipline trainings in five communities in 2013-2014.

This innovative and empowering approach to child discipline was developed by Joan Durrant Ph.D. (University of Manitoba) for Save the Children Sweden. It is relevant to parents of all children from infancy to adolescence.

Positive discipline is:

  • Non-violent
  • Respectful
  • Based on child development principles
  • Solution-focussed

Three-day Facilitator Trainings were held at the following locations in Ontario

Date Location
Nov. 26-28, 2012 Toronto, ON
Jan. 30, 31, Feb 1, 2013 Kenora, ON
June 4-6, 2013 Renfrew, ON
October 28-30, 2013 London ON
January 21-23, 2014 Brantford, ON

The project was wrapped up with a Symposium on May 1 in Toronto to which all those trained were invited.

The Positive Discipline program has been adopted by many countries and to date the parent guide has been translated into 15 languages including French.

See the new Positive Discipline website for complete information on the program, including information for parents, links to download or order the parent book, and a section for facilitators. For information on training, contact Joan Durrant directly.
